SESSION C: A FAIR SHARE OF GLOBAL WEALTH: GOVERNANCE, DEBT, REPARATIONS, AND A GLOBAL TAX CONVENTION

Children need access to quality public services but, without a fair share of global wealth, basic rights for children living in lower-income countries will remain a distant dream. To achieve sustainability, reliability, and resilience in public services for marginalised children, all governments must have fair access to financial resources and representation in global fora. Yet today’s context is one in which debt interest is spiralling and private debtors are circling, where already insufficient ODA is shrinking and multilateralism is being put at risk, and conflict, climate disaster, and economic shocks are forcing children to live through a permacrisis. This session will explore these challenges and ways to tackle them, including the UN resolution to create a global tax convention and the forthcoming UN Summit of the Future, to achieve a fair share of global wealth for marginalised children.

SESSION D: INCLUSIVE ECONOMIC GROWTH FOR CHILD-CENTRIC DEVELOPMENT

Injustice is multidimensional. Rural children are less likely to enter or complete education, are more likely to be in child marriages and in child labour and have less access to basic services such as healthcare, or clean water and sanitation. If a girl is in a child marriage, she is likely being sexually abused, and in child labour due to the heavy burden of domestic chores. National governments have a responsibility to address these injustices, yet the poorest children and their families can miss out if national budgets are insufficient and do not prioritise the most marginalised. This session will explore ways in which countries can develop the kind of economic growth which includes all children, and learn more about how countries like Nepal are working to end inequality.

SESSION E: CHILDREN IN CONFLICT: PROTECTION, RESPONSIBILITY, AND PEACE

Almost 200 million children are living in the world’s deadliest conflict zones, with more children being killed as a result of conflict in the last six months than in the preceding three years. The international community has a responsibility to ensure that international law is upheld, and that combatants are not only held to account but are prevented from attacking children. Yet much of the world chooses to avert its eyes from the critical needs of children affected by conflict, whether they live in a lethal conflict zone or have been displaced within or outside their country’s borders. This session will explore the process for monitoring and stopping war crimes against children; how delivery of humanitarian relief and basic rights for children can be assured and expedited; and learn from Nepal’s experiences of conflict, accountability, and reconciliation to create an environment of peace for Nepali children.

SESSION F: ENDING THE EPIDEMIC OF VIOLENCE AGAINST CHILDREN

Half of the world’s children are estimated to have experienced physical, sexual, or emotional violence or neglect, leaving lifelong emotional scars and creating the risk of violence being perpetuated for generations to come. For hundreds of millions of children, violence is inflicted through child labour and trafficking, child marriage, and online trafficking and sexual abuse. The world has committed time and time again to end these systemic abuses, yet progress has stalled - or, in sub-Saharan Africa, has gone into reverse. This session will give a global overview of the scale of the challenges, consider case study countries where measures are being taken to end systemic violence against children, and discuss how these might be taken to scale to end it for good.
